How to Stay Healthy During Long Road Trips

Long Road Trips

There is a lot to love about the open road. A good road trip will give you time to relax, think, and admire the landscapes of your country. And it is also a good way to get to your destination on a budget. The only major downside is how taxing long hours on the road can be on your body. Being sore and exhausted can make both the journey and the destination harder to enjoy, so it’s important to preserve your health whenever possible. With that in mind, here’s how you can go about making road trips less taxing on your body.

1 – Comfort on the road

One of the ways you can make the trip easier is to make your time in the car more comfortable. Make sure you have proper back and foot support while in the car and try to change positions often if you can. Don’t stress about your work or income. Make sure you have enough money with you. If you are not in a hurry, consider stopping for breaks often so you can stretch and get the blood flowing a bit.

It’s best to test comforts like back and foot support in the car ahead of time, so you won’t have to figure out how to best use them during the trip.

2 – Stay hydrated

Make sure you stay hydrated throughout the trip. Sitting still for hours can make it seem like you’re not thirsty, but your body still needs plenty of water. Especially if you have been breathing in dry air coming from the air conditioner. One way to make sure you stay hydrated is to pack flavored water and sports drinks, both of which can make taking in fluids more fun.

3 – Pack healthy snacks

Road trips often mean you’re on vacation, and you may be tempted to let loose and eat some junk food for a chance. However, you should consider saving those until after you finish your trip. After all, junk foods are usually hard to digest, and sitting down in cramped spaces for hours won’t make that process any easier.

4 – Relax before bed

If you are taking a multi-day trip, it’s important to make the most out of every night of sleep you get. And one way to do so is to make sure you are relaxed before you go to bed. This means you should resist the urge to eat and go straight to bed, and take a feel minutes to loosen yourself up first.

Try stretching, take a long bath if that’s possible, maybe go for a short walk. Or if you packed a good e-liquid, take a moment to vape something soothing. Whatever works to help you shake off the tension you built up while on the road.

5 – Pack entertainment for the road

What entertainment works for you depends on whether you’re traveling with a family or not. Music and audiobooks can make it easier to pass the time if you are alone. If you have company in the car, there are a variety of road trip games out there that you can try out to keep things interesting and help everyone stay relaxed.
