Interview with the talented, young artist, Awkward Jaz

A 26-year old artist based in Newport News, Virginia, Jasmine Offer aka Awkward Jaz, is rocking the music industry with her quirky and upbeat music style. Jasmine started her musical journey in 2012, but she started making music long before when she was just 10 years of age. A cat lover, Jasmine blends her passion and innate music-making skills and comes out with music that is hard to miss. Fans worldwide love her laid-back, old-school sound, with a dark/ gothic twist.

The latest single “What’s Best 4 U” by this young artist has created a stir in the industry. This is a powerful track that “pays homage to a notable pimp named Goldie from a 1973 movie”, says Jasmine. This track is accompanied by a creative music video that went live on YouTube on April 28, 2024.

With hard work, dedication, and passion, Jasmine is rapidly paving her way through the music industry.

 

Interviewer: Who are some artists from the industry who inspired you to make music?

Awkward Jaz: My inspirations for making music are Erykah Badu, NipseyHussle, Jay-Z, and Snoop Dogg.

 

Interviewer: How would you describe your music style to our readers?

Awkward Jaz: My music style varies, but mainly it’s laid back, old school sound with a dark/ gothic twist.

 

Interviewer: Tell our readers a few things that you love.

Awkward Jaz: love cats, painting, traveling, and recording music.

 

Interviewer: Tell us about your musical journey.

Awkward Jaz: I have been rapping since I was in the 5th grade (age 10). I recorded my first song in 2012. My first video was “Anti-Social Anthem” shot in 2013 that had a dark 90s, rugged sound. Today, I am still making videos and pushing creative boundaries.

 

Interviewer: Tell our readers about your latest project “What’s Best 4 U”.

Awkward Jaz: My latest project, “What’s Best 4 U” is produced by The Fundraisers. On April 28th, I released an all cartoon music video for this song on YouTube. This song pays homage to a notable pimp named Goldie from a 1973 Blaxploitation movie called “The Mack”. This movie is about a pimp who returns from prison and becomes a notorious pimp to make money.
