Tips for meeting a new partner

Trying to find a new partner can be extremely daunting for many of us, as it really does mean we have to go out of our comfort zone. As we get older and more set in our ways, if we have not had a partner for a long time, the process can be even more difficult for some people.

This is the reason that many of us will start to use self-help books, therapy or even your own private dating coach to help you get out of a rut and on the road to meeting the perfect partner. In the following article we give some simple tips to help you chart the right course for your dating journey:

Perspective – When it comes to meeting someone new, one must really try to keep things in a bit of perspective. Although of course it is important, try not to let it dominate your life. This can lead to either an unhealthy obsession or coming over as a bit desperate. Therefore, one should make sure they keep up with all their usual hobbies, groups and friends and family.

Flaws – Another thing that is important when looking for love, is to be honest with yourself too. There is not one of us that does not have flaws and/or certain issues and being aware of this and accepting it can help in your quest for love. Sometimes what you might perceive as being a flaw In yourself, another person might see as quite a quirky and attractive trait!

Externalize – On your first date, try to not worry too much. When we worry, we have a habit of overthinking or internalizing. If you feel this is happening, make a conscious effort to externalize. It will help you with nerves andhelps you to stay more engaged with your date.

Genuine – It is important if you are really looking to meet someone for a long lasing relationship that you are genuine. If you are in some way just pretending with this person or not really being yourself, then it does not bode well for the future. If this is the case, you will almost certainly be wasting each other’s time in the long run!

Conversation – On your first date, or if it’s a conversation over the phone, make sure you try to keep things light. Many people try to break the ice with great chat up lines which can sometimes work well. If you do use some chat up lines that you have found online, or perhaps told by a friend, make sure they suit the occasion. Used in the wrong way, they can really go down like a lead balloon!

Have Fun – The last point we would advise, is just to keep things light and have fun. Not every date will work out. That’s just how the world of online dating works! Just try to make sure that you accept rejection gracefully. It might take a while, but by following these simple tips, you may well meet that special person soon!
