What is aesthetic breast surgery?

Aesthetic breast surgery is one of the common procedure performed by an aesthetic plastic surgeon today. The surgery is frequently performed for aesthetic as well reconstructive reasons. Breast itself is a uniquely important part of the female body and as such embodies in itself anatomical, physiological and aesthetic role. A proportionately developed breast is an important feminine feature, a sign for fertility and sexuality. It is not surprising that breasts are extremely important for women’s self-confidence especially when their role in society has expanded immensely.

Types of the aesthetic surgery

It carries several options to choose from for the breast reconstruction. All the types of the aesthetic surgery bring its benefits. According to your requirements, doctors give you advice which one is best suited for you.

  1. Autologous reconstruction:

Majority of the women go for this method, and it became top popularity nowadays. It grabs muscles, fat or skin from another part (abdomen, back, hips or inner thighs) of your body and then forms a breast shape. It delivers you most natural results than other breast reconstruction methods.

  1. Implant reconstruction:

It is one of the most simple breast surgery. In this method, saline (salt water), silicone gel or sometimes a combination of both are filled under the pectoral breast muscles. Saline is loaded on the inside chamber and silicone gel in the outside one. It is basically to tighten your breast. But, this procedure does not last for longer and can require another surgery in the future.

  1. Post-radiotherapy restoration:

Sometimes people face an indentation in their breast after radiation therapy. In such a case, they need to supplement their breast with a small tissue, perform a fat graft, or rearrange their breast tissue. This process of aesthetic breast surgery restores the symmetry of both breasts and the original look of your breast.

  1. Immediate lumpectomy reconstruction:

This method of aesthetic breast surgery apply a class of techniques. It maintains the proportion of your one or both breasts in a single day in the same manner as lumpectomy. Women prefer this type of surgery when dissimilarity takes place because of lumpectomy procedure.

  1. Nipple-sparing mastectomy:

NSM is recommended to those are undergoing removal of your breast due to the risk reduction surgery or breast cancer. It is utilized when the breast cuts down entirely. Then this method impairs the areola, nipple, and breast skin as well and offers you a wholly natural look breast.

Procedures of aesthetic breast surgery

A variety of procedures are available for patients with inadequate breast development, breast hypertrophy, developmentally ptotic breasts, involution secondary to pregnancy, weight or age related changes or to correct breast asymmetry. Breast implants either alone or in combination has given versatility and predictability for a desirable breast shape, volume or positioning. Small volumetric enhancement or asymmetries can be corrected using autologous fat grafting in selected cases.

Augmentation mammoplasty alone using breast implants is the leading aesthetic procedure for breast remodelling. Safety of the implants paired with a high patient satisfaction has made this procedure very suitable and desirable in selected cases. Autologous fat grafting is becoming an increasingly used alternative for augmentation mammoplasty.

Simultaneous mastopexy with augmentation is becoming more popular and staged procedure is broadly limited to selected cases. An abundant literature is available citing the efficacy of the combined procedure with acceptable revision rate.

Risk of Aesthetic Breast surgery

The decision to have plastic surgery is extremely personal and you will have to weigh the potential benefits in achieving your goals with the risks and potential complications of breast surgery. Only you can make that decision for yourself. There are less after effect of aesthetic breast surgery but most of the women can do some regular activities after six to eight weeks. Only the autologous reconstruction takes a longer duration to recover entirely. Otherwise, you can improve within a short interval of time with other breast reconstruction that is less invasive without flaps surgical method. Alternatively, aesthetic breast surgery does not allow you to feel healthy as the natural breast. But some feelings can be back over a period of years

Is Aesthetic Breast surgery Safe?

Among women, augmentation was the most common breast procedure followed by augmentation-mastopexy, and reduction. Overall, major complications occurred in 1.46% with very less hematoma and infection being most common. Augmentation-mastopexy had a higher risk of complications, particularly infection than single breast procedures. Age was the only significant predictor for hematomas increasing age and BMI were risk factors for infection. Concomitant abdominoplasty was performed in 4162 (5.8%) female patients and was associated with increased risk of complications compared to breast procedures or abdominoplasty performed alone.
