Mettler Toledo HE53 Moisture Balances Guide and Instructions

Installation

Place the instrument on a stable table protected from drafts, and then install it by observing the following steps:

First, open the cover and attach the windshield.

Add the cup holder.

Then add the cup manipulator and close the lid.

Connect the power cable.

Finally, level the instrument using the adjustable front feet so that the bubble is centered. You can now turn on to guide you through the unpacking and setting up of your new instrument, and to help you to perform your first measurement, we`ve put together this short instructional video. After watching this Quick Start Guide you should be ready to successfully use the HE73 and HE53 Quick Start Guide for your Mettler Toledo HE53 Moisture Balances determination applications.

First determination

Let’s make our first determination with the HE53, HE73. You can see the active measurement parameters. These correspond to the factory settings: drying temperature of 105 ° C, standard drying program and automatic stop criterion. Note the icons displayed on the screen: they indicate the current humidity level, the elapsed time, the current drying temperature and the progress curve.

First Measurement

Let’s perform our first measurement with the HE73 and HE53. You now see the active measurement parameters, these are the factory settings: 105 degrees drying temperature, standard drying program and automatic switch-off criterion. Notice the graphic indication on the display: you can see the current moisture content, the elapsed time, the current drying temperature and the graphical progress indicator…

Instrument configuration

Different types of substances require specific parameters in order to guarantee the best possible drying. To do this, you can modify the temperature and the drying program or even the stop criterion. These elements constitute the most often used functionalities of the HE53, HE73. As you can see, they are really very simple.

Instrument setting

To do this, you can adjust the weighing and heating units respectively using a calibrated weight and the optional temperature calibration kit. To set the weighing unit, press the Menu button, scroll to “Calibration”, then select “Weight calibration”. The instrument prompts you to place a weight of 50 g on the weighing pan.

Tips and Tricks

Good preparation and meticulous handling of the sample guarantee precise and repeatable results. It is important to distribute your sample in a thin and uniform layer in the dish. Humidity is one of the most dangerous and frequent degradation factors. In most parts of country, one in four dwellings is affected by humidity problems which affect the structure of the house and its interior elements, but also the health of its occupants.

So the faster you act, the faster you avoid the harmful effects of humidity. And as the effectiveness of the treatment of humidity rests on the accuracy of the diagnosis, it is at the origins that our experts attack. The origins of excess humidity in your home are varied and caused by several phenomena.

The Condensation:

A phenomenon frequently encountered inside “over-insulated” and poorly ventilated dwellings, with a significant relative humidity, condensation manifests itself in the form of water droplets or mold on the walls and ceilings of dwellings. This guarantees uniform drying of the sample. It may also be necessary to crush or grind the sample before proceeding with the measurement, as I have just done with these chips.
